The Protoform Sessions - Review
August 14, 2001
- Jess

First, I must tell you the great talents that made this music a reality. The music on the "The Protoform Sessions" was produced and arranged by Vince DiCiola. He also composed the music with the exception of three tracks where the lyrics were written by Scott Shelly. The disc contains the talents of Scott Shelly on guitars, Ed Fruge and Gary Falcone on vocals, Derek Hilland additional keyboards, Casey Young additional programming, and George Perilli and Doane Perry on drums. These artists play on various tracks throughout the disc.

The contents of the "The Protoform Sessions" blew me away. We begin with greetings from Vince as he introduces us to the music. He will continue on walking us through every track. I really enjoyed this feature as it made the journey through "The Protoform Sessions" even more elegant. It also gives us a look at this composers passion for his music. The tracks on the on the disc let you follow the progress of the music, from their early stages to what it became. They were done in Vince's own project studio. So you get the raw sound effect. Another feature I truly enjoyed.

Now we get to the best part; the music. "Unicrons Theme", "TFTM Title Theme" "Attack on the Shuttle" are just a few of the demo's offered on this disc. You also get to outakes such as a possible early Decepticon theme and "No Mercy". There are songs such as the "Dare Suite" and "Death of Optimus Prime Suite". Also a track that Mr. DiCola himself plays live drums; the "Gone Fishin Suite". You also get the sound of the '97 Botcon rehearsal. If you listen closely you may even find a suprise ending to the disc. There's so much great music on the contained on "The Protoform Sessions" that I could go on about it for days.

"The Protoform Sessions" is available exclusively from 3H Enterprises. Visit them at www.botcon.com for info on purchasing the CD.
